Pairs Mission/Nameplate Speech By James Boyd

This Speech has FOUR Parts.

FIRST: you will share about yourself and your nameplate (1 minute).

The Nameplate

Your nameplate is a graphic representation of you and your world: where you come from, your passions, where you want to go. Your nameplate:

Should be constructed with heavy paper (I use ½ a file folder)
Should be folded in half long-wise.
Should have your name clearly written in bold strokes so it can be seen from far away.
Can contain multiple pictures/drawings/Graphics

SECOND: Once you introduce yourself using your name card, your partner shares about what they learned about you in the course of your conversation beyond what you shared in your nameplate introduction. (1 minute).

The Interview

You will need to interview one another to achieve this. Keep in mind that in order to make your presentations interesting, you need to do more than just give the main facts of your interview. Yes, cull the basics from your partner, but also let your interviews take you in interesting directions as well. Maybe there is a story that comes up in your interview that illuminates your partner better than my suggestions. Tell that story. Remember this presentation has two parts: your introduction of yourself with your nameplate and your partner’s presentation of what they learned about you. Be savvy about which of you presents what information and don’t repeat information. Each person is allowed one 3×5 notecard for delivery notes.

THIRD AND FOURTH: Same as above, except you switch your presentation roles.

Grading: You will be graded on your speech timing, apparent effort, and your speech delivery. Please see and print out the grading form which you will find on our online course support site. Be sure to practice and time your speeches. Your full presentation should be between 4 and 5 minutes. I will stop you at 5 minutes.
